                     <p style="margin: 0;padding: 0;margin-bottom: 10px;font-weight: normal;font-size: 14px;line-height: 1.6;">This month, our fellows were formally introduced to the WomenNC network of friends and supporters through our annual fall event, CEDAW and Fellowship: Voices for Women. Fellows Lauren Frey of North Carollina State University, Cinthia Pecina of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Cristy Villalobos of Meredith College, and Zoe Willingham of Duke University received a warm welcome at our reception, where they introduced themselves and their interests and met Durham Mayor Pro Tempore Ms. Cora Cole-McFadden. They, and all event attendees, also enjoyed food, wine and a performance from the Vagina Monologues.</p>

                     <p style="margin: 0;padding: 0;margin-bottom: 10px;font-weight: normal;font-size: 14px;line-height: 1.6;">In addition to this friendly event, the fellows got to work this month, attending a Cities for CEDAW workshop with other members of the NC Cities for CEDAW Coalition. WomenNC provides the fellows with not only an opportunity to do research on gender equality in Durham, but the chance to gain hands-on experience in activism within their community. WomenNC and our fellows are continuing to make headway on passing CEDAW legislation by meeting with local activists and politicians in Durham.</p>

Ms. Carter has helped build our coalition for Cities for CEDAW through her network of activists. She was also a nominee for the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize and has worked with President Obama on LGBTQ issues. On behalf of WomenNC, congratulations to Ms. Carter for this recognition of her service!</p>
