The data practice has three concurrent areas of data work:

1. Asking questions to populate the research hub
2. Answering the questions on the hub
3. Fellowship

Research hub - inspiration

1. Asking questions to populate the research hub

Skills and characteristics:

• People-facing
• Able to converse with non-technical audience
• Have a grasp of systemic privilege/oppression
• Active listener

Work needed:

• Reach out to orgs to build relationship and add low-stakes questions to populate Col A in the Research Hub
  • AF and PVH's doc of who to reach out to for questions
• Once relationship is strong, see if they're willing to be a Fellowship partner

2. Answering questions on the hub

Work needed:

• If mid- or senior-level
  • Reach out to entry-level data folks/groups from demographics across the digital divide, to raise awareness about opportunity to gain experience
  • Provide accountability to the entry-level folks
• If entry-level
  • Pick a row on the Research Hub and start investigating! Investigation goes into Col E on the Hub

3. Fellowship

Work needed:

• Before August
  • Iterate on program
  • Recruit fellows
  • Build partnership with orgs so that Fellows' work can be "delivered" somewhere (based on the groundwork set in Area 1)
  • Select and scope four Fellow projects
• Aug-Nov: Mentorship during Fellowship program (essentially Area 2, but structured and 1:2 mentor:mentee ratio)

The coordination for all three points is scattered, since the data practice only started this year. To be less scattered / need to think through "minimum viable area-of-work":

1. Asking questions to populate the research hub

• need a project champ
• need a "full stack" UX researcher
• need an artifact - research goals and convo guide
• need an artifact - basic CRM for info interviews
• need an artifact - talking points

2. Answering questions on the hub

• need a project champ
• need to give them talking points and places to recruit from
• need to collaborate on talking points and "good first tasks"
