Hi, I'm Nidhi (kind of pronounced like "nidthee"). I work as a software engineer (and occasional designer), and I primarily work for a reproductive access tech nonprofit.
I'm definitely more experienced in the front-end side of things, but want to expand my knowledge of the backend, data science, and get more design projects under my belt as well. I love being more of a generalist and using both my technical skills and design to solve problems.
I became interested in Open Austin since I was, at the time I started, trying to get out of the purely-for-profit world of tech and into purely using the skills I have to solve local problems. The only project I've worked on in OA so far is the Indigent Defense website, where our team scraped court case data from Hays County and created data visualizations based on this data to determine the effectiveness of state-appointed counsel vs. private counsel.
What I know
Web development
HTML/CSS
JavaScript, TypeScript --- I typically use React for my day job, and mostly have been working in NextJS, though there are a billion JavaScript frameworks and I can be flexible.
Git + Github
Have experience with setting up CMS's, using APIs, etc.
Have some experience with D3, but would love to learn more.
I have some experience with Python and Ruby, though would love to practice more.
Design
Figma
Illustrator
AfterEffects for motion
Other
I'm pretty decent at project managing if needed
What I want to know
Backend programming (database design, etc.)
Data scraping
UX Design
Get more proficient with D3
I'm AI-curious even though it'll take my job soon
