Images: Support for drag-and-drop multiple images onto image block #9783
Comments
We already support dragging multiple images into the editor canvas or the gallery block. Could be good to also detect that on the single image and upload the rest as individual blocks (it could be later multi-selected and combined into a gallery). |
This seems like a nice feature, but also one that isn't critical given drag and drop of images does work. I would suggest this is a good future enhancement. |
Design feedback wise it's a good feature but not one we I agree is an enhancement. |
This seems tangentially related to #13202 |
I've removed the 'Future' label as this seems to be part of the Tighten up project and has the WordPress 5.x milestone. |
This support thread is very relevant: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/uploading-multiple-images-not-intuitive-for-non-geeks/#post-12130970. |
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
When adding images, I look for the right block and choose "Image" because it is prominent. I then drag-and-drop images onto the block, but no matter how many images I selected only one image is uploaded.
When I drag-and-drop multiple images I usually want to create a gallery, or I want to quickly upload multiple single images. The cognitive load of getting this right is frustrating for a single image versus a gallery versus multiple individual images.
Describe the solution you'd like
I primarily would like a solution that retains multiple images even when I drag-and-drop them onto a single image block.
One possibility could be that if you drag-and-drop multiple images onto an image block it creates separate image blocks for each image (that could then be transformed into a gallery if your intent was to create a gallery).
