Description

Downloading a file with non-latin characters in its name is broken. The downloaded file is unusable, it has no file extension, and typing the correct extension suffix rarely works properly. For example it can work for txt files but usually not for pdfs.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Find a file with non-latin characters in the name. For example, greek or arabic.
  2. Download .
  3. Save it directly, or add a suffix.

Actual result:

For example downloading a file named "Ελληνικά.pdf" will lead to downloading a file named "download" that can't be used.

Expected result:

The downloaded file with the proper name and extension, especially when dealing with common file types.

Miscellaneous Information:

  • I think the same is reported here. I couldn't find anything similar in Github Issues.
  • I do not have Chrome installed in order to check if it comes from there.
  • It's been more than a month that I am experiencing this.

I tried the file you linked specifically:

Brave 1.34.81 Chromium: 97.0.4692.99 (Official Build) unknown (64-bit)

OS Linux

Specifically: 5.16.5-1-MANJARO x86_64

I'd like to bump this and inform that this happens in all Chromium based browsers, at least for me
I am using Vivaldi, and this happens, it also happens on Chromium
OS: 6.1.12-arch1-1
Vivaldi: 5.7.2921.53-1
Chromium: 110.0.5481.100-1
