Typing characters like ` or ~ freezes text boxes on GNOME / X11

Manjaro Linux with X11

Issue description

Typing characters like ' ~ á ã prevents the text box to receive more inputs.
Terminal shows no error. Pasting words with those chars works fine.

Steps to reproduce

Just type characters containig ' ~ á ã in texts boxes.

Writing the word "avião" :

I did a bisect and this bug was introduced between 4.0-beta14 and 4.0-beta15.

I've switched from Gnome (45) to KDE plasma and I no longer have this problem.
