The Groovy generators currently generate step definitions currently look like this:

Given(~'^(\d+) widgets$') { int arg1 ->
    // Express the Regexp above with the code you wish you had
    throw new PendingException()
}

The backslashes in the regex need to be escaped, like this:

Given(~'^(\\d+) widgets$') { int arg1 ->
    // Express the Regexp above with the code you wish you had
    throw new PendingException()
}
