Individual Contributor

Individual contributors are the lifeblood of Open Austin! Anyone and everyone can be an individual contributor. They bring diverse skills and perspectives that help our projects thrive. Whether you’re coding, designing, writing, or data mining, or offering strategic insights, your active participation, creative input, and willingness to collaborate make Open Austin an innovative and dynamic community.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly sync with the product team to share updates and gather feedback
  • Engage in community discussions and provide constructive feedback on project direction
  • Collaborate with team members across various roles to help achieve project milestones

Project Champion

Project champions are the people who serve as the primary point of contact for their product team. Anyone can be a project champion! You can be a dev, designer, product manager, or data scientist. Their leadership drives project momentum, ensuring that teams remain aligned and informed. By bridging communication between diverse contributors and stakeholders, project champions play a key role in facilitating real impact. Ultimately, they help create a cohesive and transparent environment that empowers every team member.

Responsibilities

  • Regular sync with the product team to ensure alignment on project goals
  • Monthly check-ins with the Open Austin project champion cohort (async) in #oa-project-champions to share best practices and challenges
  • Regular communication with external partner liaisons to integrate stakeholder feedback
  • Highlight individual contributors' work in #general to boost visibility and morale
  • Coordinate semi-regular presentations on product work during community of practice meetings
  • Submit "open roles" requests when additional contributors are needed

Board Member

Board members provide strategic oversight and governance to ensure that Open Austin stays true to its mission and vision.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee governance policies and ensure alignment with the organization’s mission
  • Serve as mentors to project teams by offering high-level advice and leveraging professional networks
  • Facilitate partnerships and collaborations with external stakeholders
  • Provide regular reports on strategic initiatives and organizational performance

Practice Host

Practice hosts manage the community of practice meetings and serve as the welcoming point for many new contributors. They are instrumental in cultivating an inclusive space where community members can network, learn, and grow together. By ensuring that meetings are well-organized and engaging, practice hosts help maintain a vibrant and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and lead community of practice meetings to foster engagement and productive discussion
  • Coordinate with speakers and facilitators to deliver relevant and inspiring content
  • Actively recruit new contributors and promote ongoing participation within the community
  • Gather feedback after meetings and work with leadership to continuously improve the experience

External Partner Liaisons

External partner liaisons are key collaborators from our partner organizations who serve as the bridge between external stakeholders and our internal product teams. They ensure that external stakeholder priorities are accurately represented and that communication flows smoothly between all parties involved.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary communication link between external partners and internal product teams
  • Coordinate with product teams on product milestones
  • Collect and relay feedback from external stakeholders to inform product development
  • Organize and facilitate collaborative sessions between internal teams and external partners
  • Assist in troubleshooting integration challenges and streamlining partner interactions
